Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is a safe and effective method of removing skin imperfections, giving you a more even skin tone. This method is widely used by dermatologists and medical professionals to treat a variety of benign skin lesions, including warts, skin tags, age spots, Verruca’s and other non-cancerous growths.

Cryotherapy for lesion removal involves applying liquid nitrogen to the targeted area using a spray or specialised applicator. The extreme cold causes the tissue to freeze at a cellular level, effectively destroying the abnormal cells. Over time, the treated tissue will blister and eventually slough off, revealing healthier skin underneath.

Treatment is relatively quick, and most sessions take just a few minutes. While the skin may appear red and swollen initially, it generally heals within a week to 10 days.

Cryotherapy is commonly used to treat a variety of skin lesions, including:

  • Warts and Verruca’s: Cryotherapy is a common treatment for both common and plantar warts, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).

  • Skin Tags: These small, benign growths often occur in areas where skin rubs together (e.g., armpits, neck, groin).

  • Actinic Keratosis (AK): These are precancerous spots or lesions that often appear on sun-damaged skin and have the potential to develop into skin cancer if left untreated.

  • Age Spots: Also known as liver spots or sunspots, these darkened areas on the skin are typically caused by sun exposure and aging.

  • Seborrheic Keratosis: These are non-cancerous, wart-like growths that often appear as people age.

  • Cherry Angiomas: Small, red or purple growths made up of blood vessels.

  • Other Benign Growths: Cryotherapy can also be used to remove a variety of other benign skin growths, such as moles or small cysts.

Benefits of Cryotherapy for
Lesion Removal

Cryotherapy is a non-surgical option, making it ideal if you’re looking for a quick and effective treatment without the need for incisions, stitches, or a lengthy recovery time and with minimal discomfort.

Cryotherapy typically requires only a few minutes to complete, depending on the size and location of the lesion. The results are often noticeable within a few days, and the healing process generally takes about 1-2 weeks. Some lesions may require more than 1 session in order to achieve desired results.

Because cryotherapy is minimally invasive, it typically leaves minimal or no scarring or post-procedure marks. In most cases, the skin heals smoothly, with the lesion completely falling off and revealing healthy tissue underneath.

Cryotherapy is a well-established and safe treatment with a low risk of complications. Side effects are generally mild and temporary, such as redness, swelling, or blistering at the treatment site.

Cryotherapy is highly effective for treating multiple lesions in a single session, especially when they are clustered together. This makes it a great option for patients with several benign growths or lesions that require removal.

After the procedure, you can resume their normal activities immediately, with only minor discomfort. There may be a need to avoid direct sunlight or intense physical activity during the healing process, but overall, recovery is quick.

Cryotherapy is generally well-tolerated and does not require the use of anesthesia. Although some mild discomfort may occur during the freezing process, it is typically brief and manageable.
